Pittsburgh, PA 6/5/14
We visited some of what Andrew Carnegie called his "wise extravagances":
The Carnegie Museum of Art -
Portraits of Andrew Carnegie by Andy Warhol.
From Haegue Yang's Series of Vulnerable Arrangements, 2009
Cathy Wilkes' Caretakers
Jim's Anne, 2014
A detail from John White Alexander's mural The Crowning of Labor, 1905-1908.
A detail from Martin Schongauer's woodcut The Flight into Egypt, c 1470-1475.
A detail from Albrecht Durer's engraving The Coat of Arms with a Skull, 1503.
A detail from Lucas Cranach the Elder's woodcut The Rest on the Flight into Egypt, 1509.
Two details from an engraving of the 1500s illustrating iustitia (justice): "The aim of law is either through punishment to correct him who is punished, or to improve others by his example, or to protect society by overcoming the evil."
A detail from Durer's engraving The Sea Monster, c 1498.
A detail from Durer's engraving The Prodigal Son Amid the Swine, c 1496.
Matthaus Zasinger's engraving Aristotle and Phyllis, c 1500. In addition to an S&M extravaganza, the engraving is a warning against the power of women and love, and a satire on the wise man reduced to ridicule.
William Blake's Faith, Hope, and Charity, 1799.
The Carnegie Museum of Natural History -
Anne's Jim, 2014
The Carnegie Library stacks as seen from the natural history museum.

Looks like anne's in trouble. jim is telling her the to come down cause the bus is leaving
Sometimes you can communicate better with simple hand gestures rather than lots of words, ya know?
I personally enjoyed the symmetry of the illuminated globe and the reflection from Jim's dome in "Anne's Jim, 2014"...beautiful
Thank you. --A.
